Week of October 22

Thank you parents for an excellent conference week! It was so nice to have a chance to talk to you about your child’s progress this year. Remember to reach out to us any time you have a question or concern.

This week in ELA, we will learn about prepositions and prepositional phrases. A study guide was sent home today; please make sure that your child looks it over each night. Visit the link below to see a video about prepositions:

We began a unit on nonfiction today; encourage your child to read nonfiction as well as fiction text at home. Ask him/her about the text features (headings, bold print, photographs, glossary, table of contents, etc.) and how those features help in understanding a nonfiction text.

A new unit was also started in math; please see the parent letter below that gives an overview of the math topics.

Week of October 15th (Conference Week)

Hello, Parents,

This is conference week; please remember that we are following the early release schedule every day this week.

Many of you have asked for more information about what the kids are learning. This week in reading we are reviewing the concepts of theme and point of view. We have added two video links in the “Reading Resources” section of the blog (go to the yellow sticky note in the top right hand corner, then click on each link to watch a short video.) The point of view link will be helpful for tonight’s reading homework! 🙂

In math, the kids are learning about reading and writing decimals. We’ve also added two video links in the “Math Resources” page of the blog; one is a review of the order of operations (learned in the 1st 9 weeks of school) and one is about reading and writing decimals. Please watch these with your child to learn how to solve these problems and to gain a better understanding of what questions to ask your child.

If you ever have a question about what the students are learning or are in need of some adult homework help, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thank you so much for your support!

Week of October 8th

Hello, parents! It’s hard to believe that it’s fall with this summer-like weather we are having. Please remember that our classes are going on the field trip to Chatahoochee Nature Center this Wednesday. Your child should wear comfortable clothing for the weather (tennis shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt) and may bring a hat and/or sunglasses. They may also bring a small string backpack to carry their items throughout the day.

Conference week is from October 15th-19th; all 5 school days will follow the early release schedule. If you have not returned your conference form to your child’s teacher, please do so ASAP.

The book fair will take place during conference week. Please consider volunteering if you are able; see the link below for the sign-up sheet.

Students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing for the performance (casual attire is appropriate; t-shirts and shorts).  Next Wednesday is the CNC field trip and the end of the first 9 weeks…time flies when you’re having fun!
